What is VERN?

VERN (Virtual Emotion Recognition Network) is a real-time emotion recognition system that is used in award winning customer service and mental health applications.

How does it work?

Given a piece of text, you send that text to VERN, and VERN returns back the list of emotion scores for that text. The scores are based on the emotions that the author of that text is expressing as a confidence percentage. Say that you send VERN the text “I’m so happy, but at the same time, terrified.” VERN would respond back that both love and fear are expressed in that text, but it didn’t detect any anger or sadness.

You can learn more about how to work with VERN over at the developers page.
